Napanee’s Pat Moore will take to the waters of the Rideau Canal on Aug. 10, paddling from Kingston to Ottawa as part of the Kayaking For Cancer fundraiser.

This will mark the eighth and final time Moore will take part in the 202 km fundraiser, which supports the fight against cancer.

This year’s trek will have extra meaning for Moore and his family, as its being done in memory of Camden Arthur, who passed away from cancer earlier this year.

“My granddaughter, she’s going to do part of it with me this year,” said Moore. “Annika went to school with Camden so she wanted to do this trip in his memory.”

Moore, who will be kayaking as part of a group of 30 people, is hoping to raise a combined $40,000 for cancer research. Anyone looking to support his trip can visit www.KayakingForCancer.com and clicking the ‘pledge’ tab and then searching Moore’s name. Donations can also be dropped off at Hart n’ Hart, located at 111 Industrial Blvd. in Napanee.

The week long kayak trek will depart from Kingston on Aug. 10 and is scheduled to arrive in Ottawa on Aug. 17. This year marks the 19th overall year for the event, which has raised $710,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
