John M Parrott Centre reports staff member tests positive for COVID-19

The following is a message that appeared on the Lennox and Addington County John M Parrott Centre’s website from primary executive Angela Malcolm:

I am very sad to report to you that last night a JMPC staff member tested positive for COVID 19. This staff member works full time on the Cedar Grove home area which is on the 2nd floor of our Home.  Thankfully, the symptoms are mild and we hope for a full recovery.

We are very mindful of the great timing for our residents in terms of their 2nd vaccine dose!  Approximately 94% have had their full vaccination status for over 2 weeks now meaning they are fully protected!!
This is what we have done so far:
  • KFLA Public Health (PH) contacted us last night to advise of the positive test.
  • KFLA PH directed us to swab all residents on Cedar Grove right away which was completed Thursday evening (last night).
  • We used the Clorox disinfecting machine throughout Cedar Grove and in all common areas as well as staff break areas Thursday evening. This will be redone again Friday morning.
  • Contact tracing will begin Friday morning by KFLA PH staff.
  • Essential Caregivers for the Home are reduced to only one per resident throughout the entire home. (residents choice where possible)
  • No general visitors at all until further notice.
  • All powers of attorney for care on Cedar Grove are being contacted Friday morning to be provided information.
  • Residents will not be able to leave their Home Area. Doors to each RHA will remain closed until all swab results have been received. This will give us a baseline to know where our residents are at.
  • Today, we have gathered the data from our screening system as to when and who has been in our building, and who they have visited. This is both for general visitors and essential caregivers.  This information has been provided to Public Health.
  • We have provided Public Health with the information of staff presence in the building (dates and locations) as well as provided them with break room data.
  • We have also provided Public Health with the swabbing information as to the Rapid Antigen and PCR tests for both staff, essential caregivers and general visitors.
  • At the direction of Public Health today (Mar 26), ALL staff and residents will be swabbed today for COVID 19.
  • All residents will be served their meals in their room until further notice. The nightstands in each residents room all have a tray that pulls out that we will use to put their meal on.  We have purchased plate covers already to keep residents food warm
What has changed for Essential Caregivers?
    • All essential caregivers going to Cedar Grove must wear FULL PPE. This means gown, mask with eye shield which we will provide.
    • All essential caregivers going to all other Home Areas must wear a mask with eye protection which we will provide.
    • Only one essential caregiver per resident
    • If you are coming in, it would be very helpful if you could come in over the meal time while everyone must be eating in their bedrooms.
    • No leave of absences for residents until at least Monday.  More information on this will be in Monday’s newsletter.
