Items recovered in Picton police action may be related to thefts in Napanee area

A search warrant executed in Picton Monday by the OPP’s community street crime unit, emergency response team, and canine unit has resulted in the recovery of over $35,000 worth of stolen merchandise, the police force reports.

Street crime units from the Prince Edward County, Napanee, Frontenac, Centre Hastings, Bancroft, Quinte West and Northumberland detachments were involved with the police action at a Richmond Street residence as the warrant was linked to an ongoing multi-jurisdictional break-and-enter investigation.

As a result, three people were charged. A 35-year-old Picton man and a 32-year-old Brighton man face numerous break-and-enter, theft, and possession of stolen property charges. They were held for bail.  A 21-year-old Picton woman was charged with stolen property. She has a court date of May 16 in Picton.

The OPP says it has linked the two male suspects to more than 50 incidents of break-and-enter and theft across the Quinte Region. The investigation is still ongoing, also, so police has not ruled out links to other reported incidents.

Police are asking anyone who was a victim of an unresolved break-and-enter incident in the last five months to contact their local OPP detachment.
