Incoming editor at home in Napanee

Beaver Staff

When it comes to life in Napanee, there shouldn’t be too steep of a learning curve for the new managing editor of The Napanee Beaver — in fact, his appointment can be viewed as a homecoming.

Effective Monday, publisher Jean Morrison added the Beaver editorship to Adam Bramburger’s duties. The editor of The Picton Gazette for the nearly a decade, Bramburger previously spent close to five years as a reporter and sports editor at the Beaver. He said he’s always had fond memories of working in Napanee and Lennox and Addington County.

“I came to Napanee in 2003 fresh out of journalism school, knowing no one here and this community welcomed me as one of its own,” he said. “I never forgot that, nor the encouragement that Jean Morrison and Seth DuChene gave me.”

During his first stint at the Beaver, Bramburger can recall celebrating with the community when the Strathcona Paper Centre opened, doggedly following the push for hospital redevelopment, and sharing interesting stories from all walks of life.

“Every community has people who are committed to doing things that matter — some are well known and some aren’t,” he said. “I’m looking forward to finding the interesting folks who make Napanee and area the place it is and sharing their stories with our readers.”

Bramburger said he’s hoping to uphold and build upon the Beaver’s fine tradition of championing this community and holding community leaders to account. The latter will be a major focus in the short term with elections at all three levels of government by 2019.

As he joins the Beaver staff, Bramburger will also continue to edit Canada’s oldest weekly newspaper in Prince Edward County.

“Investing time in two communities will be an adjustment, especially at first, but it’s an exciting challenge,” he said. “Besides, we have great teams in place at both publications and I’m eager to work with a veteran reporter in Adam Prudhomme and everyone here.”

Bramburger says he’s also looking forward to the new storytelling possibilities presented by the redesigned website the Beaver launched earlier this year.

The 37 year old currently resides in Deseronto with his wife Melanie, who is the manager of client services at Hospice Lennox and Addington and the patient and family support co-ordinator at Lennox and Addington County General Hospital. Outside of his journalistic endeavours, Bramburger is the general manager of the Napanee Raiders and a member of the Provincial Junior Hockey League executive committee.
