One successful hockey tournament in support of Morningstar Mission deserves another.

To that end, Colton Distefano is back for a second year to organize a two-day tournament, April 3-4 at Napanee’s Strathcona Paper Centre.

“There were no fights, which was great and everyone had a great time,” Distefano said of last year’s tournament, which raised $1,700 in its first year. “Seven of the eight teams are coming back this year, everyone had a great time, no complaints. We’ve got bigger goals this year, we’re hoping to double our earnings for Morningstar Mission.”

Funds are raised through entry fees, a silent auction, 50/50 draw and chuck-a-puck held during the tournament. Distefano has no concerns about getting eight teams again for this year. Each team is guaranteed four games, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs.

Once again he’s reaching out to local businesses for support, looking for items to be donated to the charity silent auction.

Businesses looking to donate items for the silent auction can contact DistefanoColton@Yahoo.com. He’ll be accepting donated items through the end of March. The money will go towards providing meals for the less fortunate through the Morningstar Mission’s hot meals program.
