NDSS’ wrestling program had a successful day on the mat during the KASSAA tournament on Valentine’s Day as 13 Golden Hawks qualified for OFSAA.
Napanee played host to the event, welcoming athletes from the surrounding area with divisions divided by weight class.
Both NDSS’ girls and boys teams took home first place overall, while the Hawks team combined was crowned as the top school. For the ladies it was their fourth year in a row as champions while for the boys it was a first for the program.
Anna Fleury, Parker Fawcett, Maddy Lee, Hayden Harrington, and Michaela Clancy each won gold while Mia Mack, Maj Touta, Autumn Ramwood and Anna Van Hoek won silver. Isla Moffat earned bronze.

On the male side Tyler Nibourg, Noah Walker and Kien Lam Cardinal captured gold, Marcus Barber earned silver and Troy Godfrey was awarded bronze.

The top two finishers in each division advance to represent the Hawks at OFSAA.
-Also on Feb. 14, just up the street from the school, Napanee was playing host to the KASSAA curling finals at the Napanee and District Curling Club.
NDSS’ boys team was trailing 6-2 to Kingston Secondary School at the fourth end break before rallying to take a 9-6 victory in the semifinals. They took on Frontenac in the finals, falling 12-2. The boys may have a shot at EOSSAA as they await to find out how many teams are accepting into the tournament. The KASSAA region has one slot guaranteed to the champions in the provincials, but the field may expand to include the second place finishers.
The team is made up of Logan Harris, skip; Adam Chadwick, vice; Myles Chadwick, second; Josh Chamberlain and Samuel Stanley, lead.
NDSS’ girls team of Hailey Bruce, skip; Katie Buchan, vice; Emily Melanson, second; and Abigail Griffiths, lead; battled Frontenac to an extra end before coming up just short, losing 7-6 in the semifinals. Frontenac took on KSS in the finals, with KSS emerging as winner.
NDSS’ mixed team of Sloane Hartin, skip; Nathaniel Stacey, vice; Daniel Satnik and Gabriella Stacey, lead; defeated Frontenac 11-1 before losing to LCVI 10-6 in their second game.
-NDSS’ senior girls volleyball team lost 3-1 to La Salle in the KASSAA finals on Feb. 12. Napanee entered the playoffs as the top seed, having not lost a single game in KASSAA play up until that match.
-KASSAA’s hockey playoffs get underway this week.
Napanee’s girls team remains undefeated with a 7-0 record, earning them a first-round bye and a spot in the KASSAA semifinals which will take place Feb. 24 at the Best and Bash Arena starting at 3 p.m. The finals will go Feb. 27 at the Invista Centre.
Napanee’s boys team is currently seventh in their division with a record of 4-4 with one game left to play to determine their first round opponent. They’re set to face Frontenac in Kingston tomorrow afternoon. The quarter-finals begin on Wednesday.
