NDSS captured silver in KASSAA’s newest sport on Wednesday, finishing second in the first ever ultimate frisbee championship, qualifying for EOSSAA in the process.

The rather blustery day, culminating in a torrential downpour, saw stellar play from NDSS beating out Bayridge, Marie Riveier, LCVI, and Regi. Both juniors and seniors dominating the field with Jake Vanbetek getting his first ever point and Missy Reynolds putting down the first two points against Bayridge. Braden Brannon with his powerful and accurate flicks saw Dean Taylor dominate the end zone. Zaria Jackson proved spirit of the game can mellow out teams with her spirit games and handmade treats.

NDSS’ fifth game was the hunt for gold against Holy Cross. The Hawks and Crusaders battled it out in close play, with Holy Cross grabbing the gold.

The Hawks had 16 players on its co-ed varsity team. Rounding out the first ever Hawks ultimate frisbee team were senior captains Matt Ruttan, Marshall McFarland, Ben White, Lyric Barkley and Kylie Mosgrove, as well as players Mack Grosvenor, Travis Angel, Wyatt Johnston, Samantha Smith, Alice McCutcheon, Logan White and Isaac Isbester. They were coached by Karen Randall and Chad Miller.

Napanee will look to continue their strong play on Wednesday when they return to Queen’s University for EOSSAA.
