Greater Napanee unveils designs for Cherrywood Park

Town of Greater Napanee staff announced the plans for installing a new playground in Cherrywood Park, expected to be ready for Spring of 2022.

While some site work has begun at the playground location, industries and manufacturers that supply the necessary building materials have been largely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and are experiencing on-going raw material shortages. These materials include plastic, steel and aluminum, which are supplies needed to construct a safe and reliable playground structure. Originally, staff hoped to complete the construction of the Cherrywood Park playground in the Fall of 2021, but unfortunately, due to the current industrial business environment, this timeline had to be extended into the Spring of 2022.

The safety of the community is the Town’s number one priority, and staff remain committed to this project and to completing work to the best of their ability with the resources available. Town staff continue to work alongside suppliers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and are in constant communications with suppliers on the status of supplies.

The community can look forward to an area with lots of greenspace, two accessible play structures, swings and a shaded picnic area, as shown in the diagram below.

In the meantime, residents are encouraged to visit the two recently renovated accessible playgrounds located at King St. Park and at the Napanee Fairgrounds. A list of all parks and playgrounds is available on the Town’s website, www.greaternapanee.com. Residents can also visit the Town’s website for updates on current capital projects.
