History meets haunted on Oct. 23 when the Town of Greater Napanee’s Municipal Heritage Committee hosts a History and Hauntings Ghost Tour.

Led by Lisa Bird, the tour will run from 6-8 p.m., departing from Napanee’s town hall and visiting several historic stops along the way. The event will held completely outdoors, making stops outside various buildings, all within walking distance of town hall.

“A lot of these places have been highlighted on the town’s historic walking tour,” said Brianna Clement, Greater Napanee’s community engagement clerk. “They’re visiting these locations and will tell the history behind the buildings but also add a spooky spin to some of them.”

Bird has hosted her own haunted walk in the past. Now as a member of the town’s heritage committee, she was onboard to combine her walk with the town’s historical walking route.

Stops on the tour include the Allan Macpherson House, the train bridge that crosses the Napanee River, the Lennox and Addington Museum and Archives as well as several old houses around town.

For those that believe in the supernatural, Greater Napanee houses ideal conditions to attract spirits from beyond. Paranormal investigators have long advocated that limestone buildings such as the ones that populate this region are known to absorb ghostly spirits.

Though the stories will have a Halloween flavor to them, the event is still family friendly. Though there will be a few surprises mixed in to the walk, none of the stories will be too frightening for children.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, anyone interested in taking part must pre-register by visiting the History & Hauntings Ghost Tour hosted by the Town of Greater Napanee on Facebook. Space is limited to 100 people. The cost is by donation, to be made the night of the walk, with all proceeds going to the Napanee Legion Branch 137 annual Poppy Campaign.

Because the event is outside guests are encouraged to dress for the weather and to also bring their own flashlight or glow sticks. The event runs rain, shine (or, because it is late October) even snow.
