After a nationwide interview process, the Town of Greater Napanee looked within to appoint Rob Serson as the town’s fire chief and general manager of emergency services. Serson will be assuming the general manager’s duties effective next Monday and will be officially sworn in as fire chief at the Dec. 19 council meeting.
Serson began his career as a volunteer with Callander Fire and Emergency in 1990 and was appointed the fire chief there in 2004.
In 2011, under a shared service agreement, Serson became the fire chief of the Township of Nipissing Volunteer Fire Department where he managed a combined staff of 60 firefighters out of four stations.
He has an extensive background in municipal management, fire service delivery and emergency management, having served as president of the Nipissing/East Parry Sound Mutual Aid Association.
Serson has been an Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs provincial advisory committee member for the Nipissing, Parry Sound, and Muskoka districts and was a long-time member of the organizing committee for the Northeastern Fire Education Conference.
Serson has been an employee of the Town of Greater Napanee since May 2016, holding the position of assistant fire chief serving as part of the management team with the town’s former emergency services general manager and fire chief, Kevin Donaldson.
