Green Shirt Day is held on April 7 in memory of Logan Boulet, a member of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team that perished when the team bus was involved in a collision on April 6, 2018 near Armley, Saskatchewan. From that tragedy came something positive. When word spread that Boulet was an organ donor, Canadians coast to coast registered en mass to become organ donors themselves, sparking the largest number of registered organ donors the country had ever seen.

In his honor, Canadians are encouraged to wear Broncos green on April 7, the day he passed.

Green Shirt Day is a also a tribute to the victims and survivors of the deadly bus crash that rocked the nation.

As part of their proclamation, the town encourages residents to talk to their family and let it be known if they wish to be an organ and tissue donor.
