Greater Napanee, Loyalist to host Trunk or Treat events on Oct. 30

Ghosts and goblins will have a chance to celebrate Halloween early this year as Greater Napanee and Loyalist host Trunk or Treat events on Oct. 30.

Rather than go door-to-door, this event will see decorated cars camped out in parking lots, offering treats from their trunk. Held in broad daylight, the initiative makes for a more safe and accessible trick-or-treating experience for young kids. The event is overseen by the Lennox and Addington Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee.

Greater Napanee will be hosting their event from 1-3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Strathcona Paper Centre. Members of the public are invited to participate and hand out candy while also decorating their vehicles with spooky displays.

Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated trunk and costume. For more details, visit www.GreaterNapanee.com. The event is free for trick-or-treaters.
Also on Oct. 30, the Odessa Agricultural Society and Loyalist Township are teaming up to co-host a Halloween event for families.

The fun will take place 1– 4 p.m. at the Odessa Fairgrounds located at 231 Main Street, Odessa. All activities will be free of charge.

The Odessa Agricultural Society will be hosting their traditional festive activities inside the Palace, which will include Halloween games, crafts, face painting, and a poster contest. The popular costume parade will take place again this year beginning at 2:30 p.m.

New this year, guests are invited to head outside and take a stroll through the Trunk-or-Treat area hosted by Loyalist Township. Families and children can enjoy the tradition of trick-or-treating in a spook- free, safe, and accessible environment. There will also be a photo booth and music thanks to their sponsor, Stage One Realty Team.

The Trunk-or-Treat portion of the event will be held outside in partnership with Treat Accessibility, rain or shine and is an accessible event for everybody to enjoy. Local businesses and organizations will be bringing their vehicles of all shapes and sizes and have them set-up and decorated along the path. Staff and volunteers will be at their vehicles handing out treats to Trunk-or-Treaters with some fun and games along the way.

“With the support of our event sponsor, Stage One Real Estate, we have been able to incorporate a Halloween photo booth and Halloween themed music throughout the grounds,” said Amber Meyer, Cultural Development Coordinator with Loyalist Township. “Guests can also pick up a treat accessibility sign while supplies last to promote accessible trick-or-treating.”

Everyone is encouraged to dress up in their favourite costume, and bring something to collect their treats in. The goal is to have each child leave with treats and memories of a fantastic Halloween. Note that participating vehicles will be for display only and children will not be permitted to enter the vehicles.

Those interested in registering a vehicle to participate as a trunk are asked to contact Loyalist Township before Oct. 21. All vehicles must be pre-registered prior to the event.
