Greater Napanee launches accessibility campaign

Greater Napanee will spend the rest of 2018 promoting equality for the differently abled as part of a new “Accessibility Matters” campaign.

Officially launched today and running through December, the campaign will consist of the town using its website as well as its social media accounts to promote tips and reminders that will highlight the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

The town will focus on communicating the five accessibility standards that are in place under the Act to support an accessible province by 2025. The standards include customer service, employment, information and communications, transportation and design of public spaces.

“We need to change the way we think, talk and act about disabilities,” notes Vicki Hallam, manager of safety compliance and accessibility for the Town of Greater Napanee in a press release. “We want to support a culture of accessibility and inclusion in Greater Napanee. We value equal opportunity for our programs, services and facilities.”

Residents will be able to follow along with the town’s campaign through its Facebook and Twitter accounts. The town is also encouraging users to share #AccessibilityMatters to help raise awareness and promotion of the campaign.  More information on accessibility and monthly campaign posts can be found on the ‘accessibility’ page of the town’s website.
