For a second straight year the Town of Greater Napanee has decided to cancel the Parade of Lights.

Town staff said they made the decision to postpone the popular Christmas themed event after speaking with KFLA Public Health.

KFLA Public Health’s medical officer of health Piotr Oglaza says the advice given at the local level stems from the province.

“Our position as Public Health is to convey what is currently the legislative framework in Ontario based on the reopening of Ontario Act and regulations under,” said Oglaza. “We have this legislative framework that currently caps the attendance at outdoor events at 100. This is something that is a provincial regulation.”

Santa will still however be making an appearance in the community this December, albeit a virtual one.

Bethany Chadwick, Greater Napanee’s community programming clerk, says the town will be hosting Virtual Storytime with Santa. The Jolly Old Elf will stream live from the North Pole, reading holiday stories on Dec. 3, 10 and 17. The videos will be shown on the town’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
