The Town of Greater Napanee is seeking community input to help shape and develop its Recreation Master Plan.

Developing a long-term plan for recreation, parks and culture requires an understanding of community needs both now and over the next 10 years. This plan will be framed by direct engagement with the public, the volunteers that support community services, members of council, town staff and others.

A Recreation Master Plan brings together community vision, best practices and practical solutions to create a road map for investment going forward – investment in people and volunteer support, buildings, and services. When complete, the Recreation Master Plan will sit alongside the town’s forthcoming Strategic Plan, providing detailed recommendations to sustain and enhance recreation services.

A Strategic Plan defines and outlines a concrete long-term vision for the town and will summarize the overall direction of the municipality and the community for the next ten years. A Recreation Master Plan considers public and stakeholder input specifically relating to recreational facilities, parks, trails, amenities and the services they provide. Information gathered during the engagement process of the Recreation Master Plan will help support the development of the Strategic Plan, which focuses on the overarching needs of the community, by providing data on recreation and wellness.

The planned outcome of the plan is flexible guidance to support operational and capital planning for the development, redevelopment, enhancement and on-going maintenance of the town’s parks and open spaces, riverfront, community facilities and programs. The town has commissioned Sierra Planning and Management to review and update Recreation Master Plan.

The community engagement period for all Greater Napanee residents is open from June 3 – 30, 2022. Residents who are interested in contributing input regarding leisure, recreation, sports, parks and/or culture are encouraged to participate in the Community Online Survey which is available now, on the town’s community engagement platform, Let’s Talk Greater Napanee, www.letstalkgreaternapanee.ca. The consultants of Sierra Planning and Management will be reaching out to local organizations and community groups within Greater Napanee for in-person sessions to discuss leisure, recreation and culture in the community. Organization or community group interested in participating in an in-person session can register via Let’s Talk Greater Napanee, www.greaternapanee.ca. The sessions will take place on June 21.
