Grease Lightning

Nick McTaggart of Greater Napanee Fire shows the dangers of pouring water on a grease fire as part of an open house held at the Napanee fire station on Wednesday. The event was part of Fire Prevention Week, with this year's theme focusing on safety in the kitchen. Water on a grease fire will only make things worse, resulting in an instant burst of flame. Instead of water, the proper method to put it out would be to carefully slide a lid over the pot. Photo by Adam Prudhomme.
