Grade 4 students stand up against hate

We, ( the students of a Grade 4 class) felt we needed to stand up against an act of hatred and the act of terrorism that occurred on a social media post on “What’s Going on in Napanee” Uncensored over this past weekend.

Someone chose to take the pride flag and orientate it in such a way that it made the most evil symbol the Swastika. We the Grade 4 class at an elementary school in Greater Napanee are angered that with all the work we have done this year that this happened in our own community. That some adults in our community continue to act in these harmful ways.

We, will not be bystanders anymore. We, will always stand up against injustice, discrimination, intolerance, racism and inequality. We, are the future leaders of this great town and we stand together to say no more. We, will report and delete posts like this. We, will report these instances to our parents, community leaders and the police. We, will stand with those who have been victimized, harmed or terrorized by individuals in this community. We, will be the voice of tomorrow.  For together we will help everyone in our community choose kind. We, expect better of all people in our community, so do your part. Stand up, be brave, choose kind.

As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said and we hold it true today.  “We want to be judged by the content of our character” and nothing else.
