Good samaritans report erratic drivers on local highways

An early morning traffic stop led to drug charges for a Quebec man this morning on the 401. Officers with the Napanee OPP responded to a 911 call involving an erratic driver just before 2 a.m.

Officers located the vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401 in Tyendinag. The vehicle was stopped and the driver arrested for possession. A search of the vehicle turned up 215 grams of marijuana.

The male driver was charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with possession of a schedule two substance.

The driver was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled it appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Feb. 27.


A traffic tip from another concerned drive led to charges for a Kingston women.

Officers with the Napanee OPP received a 911 call on Jan. 30 from a good samaritan at 11:18 a.m. trying to assist a driver on Highway 41 who had driven her vehicle into the ditch. The caller informed police the driver may be impaired.

The driver left the scene and was met by officers at a residence. The female was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and transported to Napanee detachment to provide breath samples, where she refused to offer one.

The 29-year-old female was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and refusing to provide a breath sample. Her licence was suspended for a period of 90 days.

She was later released on a promise to appear with a first appearance date of Feb.13 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee.
