NDSS’ girls’ rugby team capped off their incredible season with an antique bronze finish at OFSAA, held last week in Belleville.

Napanee went 2-0 in the opening round to advance to the semifinals against St. Mary’s, with a trip to the gold medal game on the line. St. Mary’s, who would wind up as the OFSAA champions, topped the Hawks 31-5.

In the bronze medal game the Hawks came up just short, falling 10-7 to Centre Dufferin. Meg Miller scored NDSS’ lone try while Lila Pringle added the convert.

Napanee defeated Lambton Central 24-12 to open the tournament before squeaking by FE Madill 12-7.

Made up of a mostly younger core of Grade 10 and 11 athletes, Napanee posted one of its best rugby seasons to date, marking the first OFSAA medal in head coach Sean Dunleavy’s career, which stretched back over a decade. Previously his club had finished as consolation champions as well as a handful of top six finishes.

This year’s club went undefeated in KASSAA play, capturing the league title as well as EOSSAA to punch their ticket to OFSAA.

-NDSS track star Jack Gregory’s season ended on a disappointing note as an injury prevented him from competing at OFSAA.

There was some silver lining however as he was presented with the Janey O’Rourke Award of Excellence.

NDSS’ Riley Bird-Lyman captured the silver medal in the 100 metre dash.

-NDSS’ girls’ three-pitch softball team were KASSAA champs after defeating Sydenham in the tournament finals.
