Greater Napanee Emergency Services fire crew responded to vandalism fire in the men’s bathroom at Conservation Park on Tuesday night.
No structural damage was reported.

“Crews attended the male bathroom area of the restrooms after being alerted through a 911 call from a passer by,” said GNES deputy chief Bill Hammond. “Upon arrival C812 confirmed that a small fire was located behind the door of the males’ restroom. A dry chemical extinguisher was used to put the fire out prior to the fire truck arriving where crews made entry to ensure full extinguishment and to check for extension. No structural damage was done by the fire and crews identified the material on fire as plastic dispensers that were missing from the walls of the restroom and that the smoke alarm had been removed.”

Greater Napanee’s recreational department is working on clean up Wednesday morning and the restroom remained closed over night.

The fire at Conservation Park was part of a busy night for GNES, who also responded to an alarm at the Lennox and Addington Museum and Archives, but upon investigation, no fire was found.
