Greater Napanee council began its Sept. 14 meeting with a tribute to Greater Napanee Emergency Services firefighter Bonnie Boomhower, who passed away earlier in the week.

Greater Napanee Mayor Marg Isbester called on GNES Fire Chief John Koenig to say a few words.

“Unfortunately Bonnie, after a long illness, passed on Monday (Sept. 13) in hospital in Kingston,” said Koenig. “Bonnie was a member of Greater Napanee Emergency Services, starting with the Dorland Station with the opening of it in 2007 as one of the original members. Anybody that knew Bonnie knew her dedication, caring for people was very evident when she dealt with people. Anybody that didn’t know her was quick to see all about that. The loss of Bonnie is a great loss to our community.”

Council held a moment of silence in her honour.
