Greater Napanee Area Art Association artists are breaking every dinner table rule their mother ever told them about not playing with their food.

Instead they’re painting pictures of it, photographing it or creating masterpieces out of wood inspired by it for a special online food themed exhibit. The exhibit is open to all GNAAA members in any medium.

Starting on May 10, the GNAAA website and Facebook page will showcase its members’ creations.

Originally the art was to be displayed at Napanee’s Waterfront River Pub and Terrace, hence the food theme.

“We were going to do food and drink, anything associated with that theme that the artist could come up with, we would show,” said GNAAA president Gerry Hogaboam. “That was the plan, but then everything was shut down because of COVID-19.”

Art from GNAAA members can usually be found at the Waterfront and inside Lennox and Addington County General Libraries, though those venues are closed to walk-in traffic at the moment.

Hogaboam turned to GNAAA treasurer Primrose Craig to arrange to move the exhibit to an online format. This will allow people to view the artwork and even make a purchase if they find one that really speaks to them. The website can be found at www.GNAAA.ca.

“We’ll see what kind of response we get,” Hogaboam said of the online format. “We’ve not done this before.”

Prior to the OCVID-19 outbreak, the GNAAA had regular meetings planned with teachers from all across the province set to offer instruction for its members, which range from professional artists to pure hobbyists. With those not an option at the moment, Hogaboam is hoping the food themed exhibit will encourage them to keep at their craft until they can meet again.

“It’s tough because we don’t want people to lose their interest or lose their momentum,” added Hogaboam. “This is one little thing we’re trying.”
