Greater Napanee council accepted a request for tender for a new ice resufacer, awarding the contract to Resurfice Corp.
Greater Napanee’s director of operational audits Charles McDonald presented the report to council during July 21’s virtual meeting.
The contract is for a 2021 Olympia ice resurfacer, which has a list price of $91,990 plus $11,958.70 in GST. The deal also includes $22,000 plus HST coming back to the town for the trade in of their 2011 Olympia, making the final price paid by the town $79,088.70.
McDonald notes they received only one submission on their request for tender, but noted by partnering with Olympia once again the town was able to exercise a trade-in and come in under budget.
Once awarded, Olympia has 12 months to deliver on the contract.
Funding for the new machine is through a reserve, which is funded by Strathcona Paper Centre user fees.
-Following a notice of motion made at their June 23 meeting, Greater Napanee council voted to rescind the Declaration of Authority By-Law, which had been put in place March 19 in response to the COVID-19 crisis. The by-law essentially transferred power to town staff to continue to operate during the emergency without needing approval from council, but while still adhering to strict spelled out limitations.
Councillor Terry Richardson made the notice of motion, noting that the province had gotten to a stage where it was appropriate for council to resume more of its regular duties.
-Council moved to sign a contract with Xplornet Communications Inc., which will see the company install a wireless telecommunications tower at the South Fredericksburgh Waste Site.
The 10-year lease, which began Aug. 1, 2020, will generate approximately $61,905 in revenue for the town, which has been ear marked for the town’s IT and Communications reserve account.
-Council appointed four members to the Downtown Napanee Business Improvement Area board of directors for the remainder of the term of council-Michelle Edgar, Tim Reynolds, Pam Oliver and Jane Adams-Roy.
The BIA has also hired Michelle Dorey-Forestell in a part time role and had eight applicants for four positions within the BIA.
