Non-immunized members of Town of Greater Napanee staff could face unpaid leave during times of COVID-19 outbreak.

Staff has until Oct. 22 to be fully vaccinated, as per the town’s COVID-19 vaccination policy, which was adopted by council during their Oct. 12 meeting.

During periods of COVID-19 outbreaks, as determined by KFLA Public Health, those who haven’t received both shots could be placed on unpaid leave with the option to use banked vacation time or lieu time owing.

“The Town of Greater Napanee promotes and strongly encourages the use of COVID-19 vaccines for all eligible full and part-time staff, volunteers, unless it is medically contraindicated,” reads the report. “This is in keeping with our duty to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards and is based on the strong evidence of vaccine effectiveness in preventing serious illness and death.”

The town will follow Public Health guidelines and begin easing of personal protective equipment for those that are fully vaccinated.

-Nov. 16 will be proclaimed as Louis Riel Day in Greater Napanee.

Council agreed to recognize the day at the request of Jonathan Marconi, president of the Highland Waters Metis Nation.

The town will also fly a flag at North Fred as part of their celebrations.

Nov. 16, 1885 marks the anniversary when Riel was executed by the Canadian government for leading the Northwest Rebellion in the defense of the Metis Nation.

Riel is recognized for his work to protect the rights, communities and families of the Metis people in Canada.

-A proposed multi-sports pad originally intended for Kinsman Park will now be relocated to King Street Park.

Council voted to support the staff recommendation to relocate the park as Kinsman Park’s grounds were deemed environmentally sensitive.

The park is slated to include four pickle ball courts, a basketball court, a tennis court, a tennis practice wall and a hockey accuracy-training wall.

The project is part of a partnership with Jumpstart, which includes $211,000 in funding from the town, to develop three multi-sport pads at three existing locations, the other two being North Fred and South Fred. Work at the other two sites is progressing well.
