Green thumbs will have the opportunity to speak with the experts just ahead of the growing season during the fourth edition of Napanee’s Garden Expo, held April 6 at the Strathcona Paper Centre.

A joint venture between Communities in Bloom and the Town of Greater Napanee, the event will provide gardeners of all levels and interests an opportunity to gather ideas for their own garden.

“We’ll have a lot of vendors, all garden related from bulbs to planters, lots of seeds, lots of community groups,” said Shannon Baker, a Garden Expo committee co-chair. “There will be lots of community groups, Nature Conservatory, master gardeners will be there to answer questions, we have the plant identification contest from Connon Nurseries.”

Admission to the event is $2, which will include the opportunity to hear from five guest speakers that will talk of the Napanee Community Garden, the Nature Conservatory, basket weaving, succulent care and the Quinte Botanical Gardens. Local folk singer Steve Medd will also be on hand to entertaining with nature themed songs. Lennox and Addington Library Services will also have a table, showcasing a variety of their garden-themed books that can be checked out at the event. Those without a library card can also sign up on the spot.

The event will cover everything from gardening, landscaping, growing local food, urban forestry and gardening with a mind towards supporting nature, particularly pollinators. Baker says whether someone is new to gardening or has many years experience, the Expo will offer something for every gardener.

All told there’s 41 vendors scheduled to set up inside the SPC’s Lafarge Banquet Hall.

The Garden Expo will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will also be taking place right across the hall from the Morningstar Mission Mighty Ducks Hockey Tournament, which will also include a silent auction as well as a full schedule of hockey.

Admission to the Garden Expo also includes entry into a variety of prize draws.
