Peacefully at home with family by his side on Friday, November 24, 2023, Robert Gerard Gaffney of Tamworth at age 72 passed away peacefully. Robert is survived by his loving wife Maureen (nee Mulroney) after 51 years of marriage and the dear father of Jeffrey (Julie) and Christopher (Jodie). Proud Poppa of Bobbie (Kenny), Brooke (Kean), Dillon, Nolan, and Jameson, and great-grandchildren Benjamin, Parker, Boden, Tate, and Drew. He was equally proud of his godchildren; Tommy Breen, Lucas McDonald (Helene), and Hannah Dickson (Peter). Robert was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Patricia (nee Breen) and stepfather Floyd Tuepah and son-in-law of the late Clarence and Evelyn Mulroney. He is also survived by his siblings; Richard, Marilyn Gray (Jim), Loretta, Susan Stoddard (Mike), Cheryl Gaffney-Jacob (Bob) and Roger (Kim), and stepbrothers; Wayne Tuepah (Judy) and Craig Tuepah. Predeceased by his sister-in-law Anna Kirkpatrick and brothers-in-law, Lyman Flynn and Ed Gallagher. Loved by many nieces and nephews. Robert enjoyed the many family feasts and celebrations during his 72 years and also enjoyed his getaways with the ‘usual suspects’ attending hockey games, casino shows as well as fishing and hunting trips. Robert took great pride in purchasing hunting property (700 acres) and having a camp built ‘Lost Acres’ in 2002. He enjoyed many trips to the camp with his sons and grandsons and the rest of the Lost Acres crew. Robert was invited to become a member of the Tamworth and District Lion’s Club in 2011. He thoroughly enjoyed his time spent supporting the community with fellow members at fundraising events. He took great pride in decorating his truck and displaying the Lion’s Club banner in the parades. The family would like to thank Dr. Catherine Lowe, Dr. Dan Curran and the Tamworth Medical Clinic and the St. Elizabeth Palliative Team, especially Kim, Heather, Michael and Valerie; we will forever be grateful. In lieu of flowers, Robert would prefer that people roll up their sleeves and donate some of their life-saving blood. He always felt pleased by knowing that he helped save a life by donating throughout the years. The family received friends at the Hannah Funeral Home in Tamworth on Tuesday, November 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Assumption, Erinsville on Wednesday, November 29 at 11:00 a.m. Interment Assumption Cemetery followed by reception at the funeral home. Memorial donations made to the Assumption Cemetery or Stone Mills Fire Dept. Station 4, Tamworth would be appreciated by the family.
