A quartet of NDSS Golden Hawks senior football players have been recognized as Kingston Area Secondary School Athletic Association all-stars.

Max Van Hoek of the offensive line was named to the first all-star team while slot back receiver Nate Gifkins, defensive line Connor Birney and defensive back Joe Evans were named to the second all-star team.

The NDSS players were invited to join their fellow KASSAA all-stars for a special recognition ceremony on Jan. 17 at Holy Cross Secondary School.

“(Players) were nominated by (their team’s) coaches, all the coaches then came together to discuss the merits of each player, and then opposing coaches voted on who they believed should be on the first or second team,” explained Trevor Weir, an assistant coach with the Holy Cross Crusaders in an email to the players. “Coaches were not allowed to vote on their own players, so you were chosen by opposing coaches as one of the best at your position. You should be very proud of this accomplishment.”
