First SuperWalk a success

As the volunteer facilitator of the Napanee Parkinson’s support group, I wanted to write an open letter to thank everyone who was involved in Napanee’s first ever SuperWalk that took place on Sept. 6. This event, which is meant to raise funds for and awareness of Parkinson’s Disease, takes place in cities across Canada in September, but has never taken place in Napanee before. For anyone who missed it and would still like to donate, please go to SuperWalk.ca to contribute online.

Our SuperWalk would not have happened without the help of members of the group who helped organize the event, fundraised and walked in support of it. Burnbrae Farms was the national sponsor of the event, but we were also supported by the generous donations of several local businesses: la Creppa, Giant Tiger, Country Traditions, Metro, and McDonald’s. Our group was able to meet before and after the walk in a beautiful community room in the Napanee Community Health Centre, which gives us the space to meet on a monthly basis throughout the year. Their staff is always highly professional and efficient, but also friendly and approachable! Thanks, too, to The Napanee Beaver for coming out to report on the event.

Last of all, I would like to thank all the members of the group, some of whom were not able to participate in our SuperWalk for various reasons. I am always impressed with the wisdom, compassion and humour you share with each other in our meetings, not to mention the delicious baked treats! I look forward to working with all of you over the coming year.

Our group runs on a drop-in basis, and so no registration or commitment is required. For more information, please call Parkinson Canada at 1-800-565-3000 or visit their website at parkinson.ca.
