Deseronto’s usually potent offense sputtered against the Madawaska Valley Wolves, falling 3-2 at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre on Saturday.

‘Dogs goalie Bailey Maracle held up his end of the bargain, making 43 saves on the night while allowing just three goals. That’s usually more than enough for the league’s third best offense, but on this night only Chris Rogalsky and Noah Brant could find the back of the net for the home team.

The loss snaps a five game win streak for the Bulldogs and accounts for just their third loss on the season against 14 wins. It also marked their first home loss on the year, having gone 8-0 prior to Saturday’s setback.

They continue to lead the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League’s West Division with 28 points, five up on the Gananoque Islanders, though the Islanders do have two games in hand. The Smith Falls Rideaus are six back with one game in hand while the Wolves are seven back having played the identical amount of 17 games on the season.

Deseronto has just three regular season games remaining, only one of which will be at home.

On Saturday they travel to Smiths Falls and on Feb. 2 they’re in Gananoque. On Feb. 3 they return home to close out the season against the Islanders. Puck drop for that final home game will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre.
