How do you like them apples?

Chances are, the First Napanee Valley Scouts will have it covered in their Apple Cook Book, which they’re selling as a fundraiser for the club.

“Usually (the Scouts do) Apple Day, where they give out apples to everybody and people would give donations,” explains Michelle Chamberlain, fundraiser director for the club. “This year because of COVID we can’t do Apple Day so we had to come up with something different.”

Keeping with the apple theme, the club, which is made up of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts between the ages of five and 11, came up with the idea of putting together a collection of apple infused recipes.
“We contacted the Scouting families and they came up with some of the recipes they’ve used before and they made them together as a family,” said Chamberlain. “They took pictures of them and the finished product and they sent the finished product and the recipes to us.”

The $15 colour cookbooks include pictures hand drawn by the Scouting members. Orders can be placed before Oct. 30 by emailing michellechamberlain5@hotmail.com and can be picked up at 170 York St. in Napanee the first week of November. A confirmation date and time for pickup will be sent via email.

“There’s some apple crisp, some muffins, some bars and some loafs and there’s some creative sauces,” Chamberlain said of the recipes. “They all have apples in some way, there’s even a pork one with apples.”

All told there are over 26 recipes found within the pages, some of which are gluten free.

Scouting mom Amanda Morrison designed the book.

Proceeds from the book will go towards the club.
