Napanee Express teams were able to welcome opponents from outside the town limits for the first time in over a year this weekend.

The province moving to Step 2 of the re-opening plan meant a return to game action for Softball Napanee as well as fans in the stands.

The Napanee U16 Express girls welcomed the Port Perry Angels to the Fairgrounds for an exhibition double-header on Sunday.Jaidyn Manion got the start for both games, working to Elayna Jackson behind the plate.

The Express had some rust in their first game back after the long layoff, falling 9-0 in the first game. In the second game they showed a marked improvement at the plate despite losing 9-5.

Manion had a triple at the plate while in the field Ella McPhalen made a great throw from shortstop to nail a runner at the plate trying to score. They’ll look to build on their return to the diamond in what promises to be a return to a more ‘normal’ summer.

Napanee’s U19 men were also back on the diamond this weekend, hosting Oshawa for a double-header on Saturday and then playing a split squad exhibition game on Sunday.
