Existing signals should been returned to operation

After reading the front page story in the July 19 Beaver, one wonders why the advance green signals we had before the downtown construction were not simply returned to operation.

Now, it seems, council has to start from scratch again when really all they had to do was reinstall the existing infrastructure. It is difficult enough navigating downtown as it is, without the added aggravation of only two or three vehicles getting through an intersection on every green signal.  A 20-second advanced green would make a world of difference provided they are there for both east-west and north-south drivers. As the deputy mayor stated, the extra lanes already exist for turning.
