Driver clocked doing double 401 speed limit

A Quebec man was charged after allegedly travelling more than double the posted speed limit on Highway 401.

The incident happened early this morning at 2 a.m. At the time, an officer with the Napanee OPP was conducting mobile patrols on Hwy. 401 westbound in Loyalist Township. Using a radar device, the officer locked in a vehicle travelling at 216 kilometres per hour in an 100km/h zone.

The driver, a 23-year-old Quebec man, was stopped and charged. His vehicle was impounded for seven days, and his driver’s licence was suspended.

The OPP did not indicate the model of vehicle the man was driving at the time of the incident.
