Driver charged with multiple offences after striking police cruiser in attempt to flee

Members of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with multiple criminal offences.

On Aug. 26  just before 8 a.m., officers received multiple traffic complaints for a vehicle travelling eastbound on Hwy 401.

Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, at which point the vehicle struck a police vehicle before travelling into the westbound median ditch. The driver fled on foot but was immediately arrested. The vehicle was subsequently confirmed to be stolen.

No one sustained any injuries during the incident.

A-31-year old, of Lachine, Que. was charged with:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Resist peace officer
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Failure to stop after accident
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Fail to remain
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
