Driver and passenger charged with multiple offences after nearly causing several head on collisions on County Rd 2

On Jan. 20 at approximately 6:30 p.m., Officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP responded to multiple reports of a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. The vehicle was reported to have nearly caused several head on collisions eastbound on County Road 2 from Kingston to Loyalist Township.

The vehicle failed to stop for a red light on County Road 2 at County Road 6 in Odessa. Police observed one vehicle that was forced to take the ditch to avoid a head on collision.  Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop however for public safety, officers utilized alternative measures to affect the traffic stop on County Road 2.

Police determined that the driver was showing signs of impairment and the driver was subsequently arrested.  Police seized several cell phones, Canadian currency, suspected Percocet pills, a prohibited device, and identity documents. Both the passenger and the driver were subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for processing.

L&A County OPP have charged a 51-year-old of Kingston with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs;
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle;
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand;
  • Resist police officer;
  • Two counts of fail to comply with release order;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Fail to comply with probation order; and
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.

Police have also charged a 48-year-old of Kingston with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime;
  • Fail to comply with a release order;
  • Resist police officer; and
  • Possession of identity documents

Both accused were further charged contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking.
