The 2021 Juno Award nominations were announced today and Deseronto’s Ryland James saw his name appear in two categories.

The 21-year-old is among five finalists for Breakthrough Artist of the Year as well as Pop Album of the Year for his self-titled debut, which was released by Universal.

“Wow wow wow. I can’t even begin to explain how grateful I am. Being nominated for the Juno Awards is something I’ve pictured my whole career as an artist but to actually experience it is something else entirely,” James wrote on his Facebook page. “Thank you to all of those who have believed in me along the way and to those who continue to believe in me. I’d be nothing without you.”

James’ single In My Head was released in 2020 and reached platinum. The music video for his second single, Water, was filmed in Deseronto.

The 2021 Juno Awards will mark the 50th anniversary of Canada’s top music award. They will be held May 16 in Toronto and broadcast on CBC.
