Showing no signs of a holiday hangover, the Deseronto Bulldogs kicked off the 2024 portion of their schedule with a convincing 11-6 win over the visiting Central Hastings Ice Miners on Saturday.

Deseronto opened the game with a string of nine unanswered goals, three of which came from Jordan Cannons. Taylor Best, Mitch Gustavsen and Noah Brant each chipped in with two while Brodie Maracle and Jonny Hill had one on the night.

The Ice Miners did find their scoring touch in the final period, outscoring the Dogs 4-1 over the final 20 minutes, but the damage had long been done.

Bailey Maracle picked up the win, facing 59 shots on the evening.

The victory improves the first place Bulldogs to 14-2 on the season, giving them an eight point lead on Smiths Falls in the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League’s West Division.

The Bulldogs are in the home stretch now with just four regular season games remaining, split evenly between home and away.

Their next action will be Jan. 20 when they host the MV Wolves at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre. Puck drop is 6:30 p.m.

From there they’ll travel to Smiths Falls on Jan, 27 and Gananoque on Feb. 2 before closing out the regular season with a home game against Gananoque on Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
