Noah Brant’s two goal effort wasn’t enough for the Deseronto Bulldogs, as they fell 7-4 to the Islanders in their Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League season opener, held Saturday in Gannaoque.

Brant scored his first of the night on the power-play, tying the game at 1-1 with 8:44 remaining in the first.

The Bulldogs would be chasing the rest of the game, never holding a lead in the loss. Brant added his second in the dying seconds of the first, cutting the Islander lead to 3-2 at the time.

Joey Mayer added one on the second for the visitors, cutting the deficit to 5-3 at the time. Shawn Mackie picked up Deseronto’s fourth of the night at the 13:23 of the third, rounding out the scoring for the night, bringing the score to 7-4.

The Islanders outshot the Bulldogs 61-42 on the night.

Deseronto will look to get in the win column when they host their season opener on Saturday as they welcome the Tweed Oil Kings to the Deseronto Community Arena. Puck drop is 6:30 p.m.
