Debra Kimmett will bring her one-woman show, Year of the Suddenly, to Kingston’s Baby Grand April 5-7.
Proceeds from the April 5 show will support Hospice Kingston.
The Napanee and Amherst Island native stand-up comic combines her signature style of humour with poignant story telling in her show, which was inspired by the life-changing moment she learned her brother Kevin had been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
“My brother and I didn’t know each other very well our entire life,” Kimmett explains. “I think it’s something many of us can relate to, how the unexpected ends up forcing you to realize you are being given one final chance to get it right with your family.”
She adds, “In my case, I discovered the brother I never knew I had.”
Directed by Linda Kash (who won accolades this year alongside Ewan McGregor in the Emmy-winning Fargo), the show chronicles a brother and sister learning to forgive one another later in life.
Tickets are $50 plus HST for the April 5 show and $30 plus HST for the April 6 and 7 performances. For more information see https://www.kingstongrand.ca/event/year-suddenly.
Kimmett has appeared on CBC Radio shows such as The Debaters and DNTO as well as appearances at The Second City.
