Lennox and Addington County council bid farewell to Steve Fox at their regular council meeting last week, who retired after 30 years as director of financial services and treasurer for the county.
Past wardens Gord Schermerhorn, Bill Lowry and Henry Hogg joined current warden Eric Smith to make a special presentation to Fox.
“(Fox) is valued for his professionalism, and his keen understanding of municipal finance,” said Smith. “As the old saying goes – he is worth his weight in gold.”
“To say that Steve has been a valued member of our team would be an understatement,” added L&A County CAO Brenda Orchard. “Steve is well respected and relied on for advice by staff at all levels of the organization and in municipalities across eastern Ontario.”
Fox echoed the sentiments about the previous councils he had worked with as well as the current one, which just passed his final budget a few months ago.
“(L&A County council members are) very progressive and thoughtful in their planning.” Said Fox, “Like the councils before you, you are leaders in taking a longer-term approach to ensuring that the county’s assets remain in good condition for future generations.”
Mark Day, who served in a similar capacity with the Town of Greater Napanee, has been hired as Fox’s replacement.
-After using a temporary home for almost a year next to the Stone Mills Municipal Office, Lennox and Addington Ambulance Service officially moved into its new Centreville base on June 19.
Located on County Road 4, the base is now fully operational with just a few minor landscaping details left to be done. Council heard that an official opening of the new base would be held soon.
