Greater Napanee council got together for a pair of special meetings last week to take care of a few house keeping items.

At their April 15 meeting council passed a by-law to appoint Kenneth Shawn Armstrong as the town’s acting fire chief. Council directed CAO Brant Zätterberg to execute an agreement that will see Armstrong assume the role for a six month period, running through Oct. 15.

Armstong’s previous experience includes seven years as chief of Kingston Fire and Rescue as well as serving as chief of Guelph Fire.

At a second special meeting on April 17, council voted to dissolve the Greater Napanee Downtown Advisory Committee. Councillor Angela Hicks, the council rep on the committee, cited lack of membership as a major reason. With only five members listed, if one person is unable to attend a meeting, they don’t have quorum.

Council directed staff to compile a report on a possible committee structure that would focus on tourism, marketing, events and economic development.
