VON Greater Napanee (Victorian Order of Nurses) will be celebrating VON Week from May 16-22. This year’s theme, Compassion where it Counts, acknowledges the compassionate care that staff and volunteers continue to provide to keep people healthy and safe at home – at a time where this is more important than ever.

Across this province, VON employees have continued to be on the front lines of the COVID-19 response. The efforts of VON caregivers are helping to keep people fed, cared for and safe in their homes. These efforts are essential, and in many cases help reduce further strain on their fellow medical professionals in hospitals. These people are all heroes in this global effort. During VON Week, staff who deliver this care or play a role behind the scenes, along with volunteers and donors who support this work, are celebrated.

“VON Week illustrates the important role and contribution of home care in Canada’s health system,” says Cindy Weese, Manager, Home and Community Care, Greater Napanee. “Our VON home and community care providers have such a positive impact on their clients’ lives, and during VON Week we wish to honor them”.

To help celebrate the week the Town of Greater Napanee’s Springside Park waterfall area will be lit in blue. From a distance, VON will raise awareness and celebrate the important programs offered to citizens living in their own homes, right where they want to be.

As the founder of home care in Canada, VON delivers health, wellness and end-of-life support to more than 10,000 people in Ontario and Nova Scotia every day. VON Greater Napanee has been delivering programs in this community since July 2019, including meals on wheels, footcare, in home respite, home help, adult day, overnight respite, stroke support, volunteer transportation, congregate dining, and SMART (Exercises and Fall Prevention). ”

Maintaining the health and safety of our community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic is a top priority of our organization”, says Weese.
