A pair of flags were raised in front of Lennox and Addington Community Living on Wednesday to help mark the official start of Community Living month.

On top the pole, which stands in front of their 99 Richmond Blvd. building, is the Canadian flag while just below it flies a white flag with Community Living’s inspiring possibilities motto adorned in their trademark blue and yellow. Overcast skies and a light rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the staff and clients who turned out to mark the occasion.

“We’re doing lots of cool work in the community, our staff, our folks have lots to be proud of,” said Barb Fabius, executive director at L&A Community Living. “We want to make sure people continue to be aware of the programs and good things we’re doing in the community.”

Among those things they’re proud of is their work to promote human rights, social change and inclusion. Those programs include helping those with developmental disabilities to find meaningful employment and to contribute to the community. They also place clients in to family homes as well as assisting others to living independently in their home.

To help celebrate the occasion, Greater Napanee council proclaimed the entire month of May to be Community Living month.

“You’ve been a huge part of our community for many years.” said Greater Napanee mayor Marg Isbester, who helped to raise the flag.

“This is not just a give, this is not just a take,” Isbester said of the town’s relationship with Community Living. “It’s a partnership.”
