Canada is set to turn 154 on July 1 and communities across Lennox and Addington have several socially distanced festivities planned to celebrate.

In Greater Napanee, the fun kicks off a bit early in advance of Canada Day.

“With COVID restrictions still in place and group gathering numbers still low, we’re pretty limited to what we can do,” said Bethany Chadwick, community-programming clerk with the Town of Greater Napanee. “There’s going to be a colouring contest for different age groups and we’re going to do as a lead up to Canada Day, the 13 days of Canada showcasing different things about each province and territory.”

The kids’ colouring contest opens on Friday and the page to colour can be downloaded from the town’s site GreaterNapanee.com or picked up from 12 Market Sq. The categories are open to kids aged 3-7 and those aged 8-12 with a prize for each age group.

In Stone Mills the Tamworth and District Lions’ Club will be hosting a drive-thru barbecue on July 1 from 4-6 p.m. at the Tamworth Ball Park on Bridge St. W.

Visitors are encouraged to showcase their Canadian spirit and create their own parade by decorating their car, truck, themselves or their pets. Prizes will be awarded to the best and most creative designs.

Kids can bring their own Canada Day themed picture they’ve drawn as well and they can submit them along with their name and telephone number on the picture.

The Lion’s Club will be accepting cash donations for hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cold drinks while the Tamworth Skate Park Committee will be hosting a 50/50 draw and bake sale.

In Bath the celebration is going virtual.

The village will be hosting their second annual doorway and property-decorating contest.

New this year will be an amateur photo contest, which is open to kids of all ages in Loyalist Township.

A virtual concert featuring local musicians is being planned while Amherst Island Radio, CJAI 92.1 FM will feature Canada Day programming.

Meanwhile residents are encouraged to share photos to the Bath Canada Day Facebook page.
