The Napanee Raiders might just be human after all.

The local Junior C hockey club saw their 16 game win streak come to an end Friday night, losing 3-2 at home to the Picton Pirates. The loss also represented their first of the season.

Adam Nuttall gave the Raiders the lead with the first goal of the game a full 28:35 into the match. Picton responded with three unanswered as Ross Maycock and Jack Dow each scored just over two minutes after Nuttall broke the shutout. Ian Harrison increased the Pirates’ lead with a goal 6:17 into the third.

Napanee didn’t let their winning streak die easily as Cameron Krupa scored at the 8:53 mark to pull the Raiders to within one. The comeback fell flat from there however as Picton made their one goal lead stand over the final 11 minutes. Ethan Beattie had the distinction of becoming the first netminder to defeat Napanee, stopping 25 pucks on the night. Bailey Maracle took his first loss of the campaign, finishing with 29 saves.

Napanee will look to start a new streak on Sunday when they visit the Amherstview Jets. Puck drop is 1:30 p.m.
