Collision on Hwy 401 off-ramp leads to drug and weapon charges for two people from Kingston

On June 11  at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound off-ramp at County Road 41 in the Town of Greater Napanee, Ontario.

The investigation of the crash scene indicated that the driver of a westbound motor vehicle lost control of that vehicle, left the roadway and came to rest in a field north of Highway 401. One of the three occupants of the vehicle left the scene and was located a short time later by police at a nearby service centre.

The remaining two occupants were transported to Hospital by EMS where they were released without injury.

From both the vehicle and some of the occupants, officers seized approximately 10 grams of suspected fentanyl, approximately 22 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine along with a prohibited weapon (a baton) and drug paraphernalia.

A 44-year-old of Kingston has been charged with:

  • Four counts of fail to comply with release order
  • Two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking

A 28-year-old of Kingston has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking

The 44-year-old was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on June 21, 2021.

The second suspect was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on August 10, 2021.

The third occupant of the vehicle was initially arrested as well but was subsequently released unconditionally.
