Deciduous will be mixed with coniferous at Lennox and Addington County’s annual Christmas Tree event on Dec. 19, as the maple leaf figures to be quite prominent on some evergreens.
The county’s museum and archives will be lined with Christmas trees that night, each decorated in the theme of All Things Canada. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“(The theme is) celebrating the end of Canada 150,” said JoAnne Himmelman, curator with the L&A Museum and Archives. “Fourteen groups are involved this year and have all taken on the challenge to decorate their trees with something that all Canadians can relate to, whatever you think that may be-maple syrup, donuts, back bacon, Tim Hortons, cottage country, beaver, moose, Expo ‘67, the CN Tower, wherever your imagination takes you.”
Guests will have the opportunity to view the patriotic trees as they walk through the museum and then cast a vote for the “people’s choice,” with a prize going to that organization. Anyone who casts a ballot will also be entered to win a draw prize as well.
“Groups from all over L&A will be decorating this year,” said Himmelman. “Some confirmed groups include Lennox and Addington Special Olympics, The Napanee Pioneers, Napanee BIA, Community Foundation of L&A, Lions Club of Napanee, Loyalist College and Lennox and Addington Hospice to name a few.”
Different departments within L&A County will also be entering their own trees into the mix.
Father Christmas will once again return to the Lennox and Addington County Museum and Archives Christmas Tree event on Dec. 19.
Also on hand for the celebration will be Father Christmas, Lilly the Fairy and her Winter Fairies, live reindeer from Sherwood Farms and music from the Kingston Ceili Band. They’ll be playing Christmas favourites in the courtyard with carollers. Refreshments will be catered by Season’s Fine Foods.
Admission to the event is free. The museum is located at 97 Thomas Street E in Napanee.
