The Cauldron Sisters Coven will be brewing up a good time at the Selby Hall on Oct. 28 during their first ever fundraising Halloween dance party.

Tickets to the 19-plus event are $20 and guests are encouraged to wear their best costume for a chance at a prize. The party runs from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Leading up to the event, the witches are encouraging local community groups to submit their name to have their chance to be the lucky recipient of the proceeds from the dance.

The premise of this event is any not-for-profit organization in KFLA area can send a letter to me just saying they would like to be considered,” explains Lorraine Elder Ross of the Cauldron Sisters. “At the end of the dance everyone who has given me a letter, their name will go into a cauldron, not a hat, and we’re just going to draw a name at the end of the night and that organization will get the majority of the funds.”

Those wanting to purchase tickets for the event or submit their organization to be considered for the draw can do so through the Cauldron Sisters Coven Facebook page or by emailing thecauldronsisters1@gmail.com. Charitable organizations must submit their name by Oct. 10 to be considered.

Elder Ross says they are also seeking any donated items from local businesses to be included in their fundraising raffle. Any spooky decor will also be a welcome donation as they look to transform Selby Hall into a spooktacular locale for the dance.

We’ll take those skeletons in the back of the closet,” joked Elder Ross.

Founded in 2020, the Greater Napanee-based Cauldron Sisters are a group of about 30 active members who dress at witches while appearing at local events. Unlike the evil witches of folklore, these are kind-hearted souls with a penchant for raising funds for groups such as Morningstar Mission or food boxes for area schools. Rather than cast spells, they’re more likely to cast dance moves, as they regularly get together to choreograph group routines. They may even have one in the works for Oct. 28.

We are just a bunch of crazy people who like to dress up and just spread some happiness,” said Elder Ross. “We’re actually taking part in Culture Days (on Saturday in downtown Napanee), we’re going to Wynn’s Orchard to participate out there, we’ve done both of those events the last few years. It’s just about being out there, being present and giving people the opportunity to come and see us, have their picture taken with us and just bring some happiness really.”
