The Deseronto Bulldogs strengthened their blue line on Wednesday, acquiring defenceman Cameron McLean and cash considerations in exchange for high-scoring forward Brandon Gilmour.

McLean, a native of Brockville, played Junior A for the Smith Falls Bears before joining the Maxville Mustangs to begin his Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League career at the senior level. The 21-year-old never did get a chance to suit up for the Mustangs however as the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his most recent action he showed an ability to contribute offensively, scoring 12 goals with 28 assists in 59 games played for the Bears in 2019-20. He also racked up 152 minutes worth of penalties. A year prior with the Kemptville 73’s he had 18 goals to go with 19 assists.

As for Gilmour, he was an alternate captain for the Bulldogs, joining the team midway through the 2019-20 season via trade from the Cornwall Prowlers. The 27-year-old Cornwall native had 10 goals and 12 assists in nine games with the bulldogs to go with three goals and six assists with the Prowlers. In the playoffs he added a goal and an assist in two games played. Despite only playing half the season in Deseronto, he wound up the team’s third best scorer, finishing behind Mitch Merry (13 goals) and Kyle Wetering (11 goals). His 22 points were fourth most on the team.

Along with the trade, the Bulldogs also announced they would be holding a training camp/team try out this summer at Napanee’s Strathcona Paper Centre. The exact date is yet to be announced. Interested players must send their name, age and date of birth (must be born in 2001 or older), their position, previous team, highest level played, birth place and hometown along with their phone number.
