Five different Bulldogs found the back of the net on Saturday in South Grenville to lead Deseronto to a 5-3 win over the Rangers.

Carter Thornton and Luigi Martone each scored for the visitors in the opening period, as the Bulldogs appeared to be on their way to a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. The Rangers got one back in the final minute however as Zachary Lefebvre scored short-handed to cut the lead in half.

That would be the theme of the game as the Rangers continued to find a way to stay close, but never quite able to overtake the Bulldogs. The two teams alternated goals the rest of the way with Joey Mayer, Jonny Hill and Mitchell Merry scoring for Deseronto, Jacob Victor and Devon Burns scoring for South Grenville. Merry’s goal came with just two seconds left in the game, a welcome insurance goal as the Rangers had crawled to within a goal with six minutes left to play.

Graeme Gemmill earned the win for Deseronto.

The Bulldogs have now won two in a row to climb to 8-9 on the year with 16 points, just one back of both the Tweed Oil Kings and Smith Falls Rideaus for third place in the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League West Division. They are three back of second place Arnprior and six back of first place Gananoque.

The Rangers meanwhile remain winless on the season, falling to 0-14-2.

Deseronto will host the Oil Kings this Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. puck drop.
